Hiroshima Castle
The name of Hiroshima was born when this castle was built in the largest delta island 400 years ago. This tour will explore various aspects of the castle:
  • Beauty of Hiroshima castle keep (tower) -- It is incredibly beautiful and always looks more attractive when surrounded by the flowering Sakura, summer greenery, or autumn leaves. The castle can be enjoyed both from inside and outside.
  • Like all castles, the Hiroshima Castle has clever designs to allow for offense and defense -- This tour will explore the Japanese designs which enhance the offensive and defensive tactics used by Samurai in the castle layout, stonewalls, moats and buildings. There are faint tracks on the stone wall, which when explained, tell us of the long histories.
  • Experience the perspective of a Japanese Feudal Lord -- This tour allows you to overlook the whole town from the top of the castle, and think how a Feudal Lord may have felt 400 years ago. The inside of the castle now serves as a history museum to explain Hiroshima from birth until today.
  • Several landmarks -- We will visit the landmarks in the castle grounds. One of the landmarks unofficially served as the Capital of Japan and another landmark was the site where the world first reported the dropping of the atomic bomb.

This tour does a deep-dive into Japanese culture in 2 steps:
  • Compare and Contrast shrines and temples -- The shrines are for Shintoism, Japan's unique religion, and temples are for Buddhism, from India. In this tour, you will learn what they are and how they have  evolved in Japan. This is important because both of their religious teachings have been fully integrated into Japanese customs. For example, Hatsumoude (visit to shrines during the first 3 days of the year), local festivals, Kagura, Mikoshi and Sumo. It's fun and interesting.
  • Observe the Japanese worshiping at shrine -- This tour will allow you to emulate Shinto worship, following the original manners. Bow once in front of the torii gate, purify yourself at temizusha, place ”offering” coins into the box, ring the bell, bow twice, clap twice, then bow once. If you are interested, we will go into detail for you. Once you understand, you can amaze your friends and family during future visits to other shrines. Naturally, we also will include  drawing of your fortune, just like the Japanese enjoy.
